Section 23: FTP Downloader and Time Shift Recorder

This section provides a guide on using the FTP Downloader and Time Shift Recorder in NextKast. These tools allow you to download files from FTP or HTTP servers and record from any sound card attached to the computer running NextKast.

Overview

  • FTP Downloader: Automatically downloads audio files or playlists from FTP or HTTP servers. Useful for downloading updatable content such as news or pre-recorded shows.
  • Time Shift Recorder: Records audio from any connected sound card, allowing for scheduled recordings and time-delayed broadcasts.

Requirements

  • These features are only available in the On-Air NK Manager version of NextKast. Ensure you have this version and that the NK Manager is running.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open NK Manager: Start the NK Manager application and navigate to the Playlist Builder Voice Tracking screen.
  2. Access the Schedule Menu: Click on the Schedule button. On the right-hand side, you’ll see the Record Downloader option listed just below the Clear Schedule button.
  3. Open Background Recorder and Downloader Menu: Click on the Record Downloader option to open the Background Recorder and Downloader Menu.
  4. Add a New Background Task:
    • Click on the Add New Background Task button.
    • Enter Task Details:
      • Description: Provide a name or description for the task.
      • Type: Choose between “Recording an Audio Source” or “FTP Download.”
      • If FTP Download is selected:
        • URL: Enter the FTP server URL.
        • Username and Password: Enter the FTP credentials.
        • Port: Specify the port number (usually 21 for FTP).
      • Target File: Specify the local directory where the downloaded or recorded file will be saved.
      • Remote File: Name the file to be downloaded or recorded.
  5. Set the Schedule:
    • Days: Check the days of the week (Sunday through Saturday) when the task should run.
    • Hour From/To: Set the time range for when the download or recording should occur.
    • On Minute: Specify the exact minute for the download or recording to start.
    • Duration: Define how long the recording should last if it’s a time-delayed recording.
  6. Manage Background Tasks:
    • Remove a Task: Highlight a row and click Remove Selected Task to delete it.
    • Go to Task Target: Click on an existing event and press Go To Selected Task Target File to navigate to the file’s location.
    • The list view displays the task’s description, type (FTP or recording), URL or source, target file location, and the last run time.

Monitoring and Automation

  • As long as the NK Manager is running, the FTP Downloader or Background Recorder will run automatically, following the specified schedule.
