Simple External Mixer Option
Section 24 – Simple External Mixer Method
Overview: The External Mixer Method in NextKast OnAir allows users to utilize an external audio mixer to combine audio from the NextKast players with microphones and other audio sources. The mixed audio is then routed back into NextKast for use with internal streaming encoders and to output to the broadcast sound card.
How to Set Up the External Mixer Method:
- Connect NextKast to the External Mixer:
- Ensure your PC is running NextKast OnAir.
- By default, NextKast uses the default sound card in Windows.
- Run the audio out from the default sound card into one channel of your physical mixer (e.g., channel 1).
- Connect Other Audio Sources:
- Connect your studio microphone(s) to another channel on the external mixer (e.g., channel 2).
- Connect any other audio sources (such as additional microphones, music players, or external devices) to separate channels on the mixer (e.g., channel 3).
- Route the Mixed Audio Back to NextKast:
- Run the main output from your external mixer into the Line In of your PC’s sound card.
- Configure NextKast for External Mixer Use:
- Open NextKast and navigate to Settings.
- Go to the Line In Settings and check the option Use External Mixer.
- Select the Line In source to which the external mixer is connected.
- Enable Line In Audio in NextKast:
- When ready to broadcast or stream, press the Line In button in NextKast.
- The audio will be channeled from NextKast to the external mixer, allowing you to control the volume and mix with other audio sources.
- Mixing and Broadcasting:
- Use your external mixer to adjust the volume levels of NextKast audio, microphones, and other sources.
- The final mixed audio is fed back into NextKast and can be sent to internal streaming encoders and the broadcast sound card for output.
Tips for Using the External Mixer Method:
- Volume Control: Use the external mixer to fine-tune the audio levels for a balanced mix.
- Flexibility: This method allows for seamless integration of multiple audio sources, giving you complete control over your station’s sound.
- Monitoring: Use headphones connected to the external mixer to monitor audio levels and quality in real-time.
By following these steps, you can effectively use the External Mixer Method in NextKast OnAir to create a professional and dynamic audio broadcast.
